Aizat AF5 heads to International Pop Music, Bulgaria

WHILE his colleagues from Akademi Fantasia season five are still struggling to establish their singing careers, it’s a different story for Muhammad Aizat Amdan, better known as just Aizat. Aizat AF5 proved his worth when his own composition, Lagu Kita, made it to the finals in the Anugerah Juara Lagu recently. Aizat AF5 name was also shortlisted as one of the top five finalists of Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian 2008.

That’s not all. Aizat AF5 debut album, Percubaan Pertama, also earned three nominations in the upcoming Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) award in the Best Pop Album category, Best Pop Song and Best Vocal Performance In A Song (Male).

However, the icing on the cake will come next month, when he represents Malaysia in the 18th International Pop Music Festival Discovery 2009 in Varna, Bulgaria.

“I’m excited and at the same time grateful that God has blessed me with a smooth journey in my career.

This is my first time competing on an international level. I hope that I can make the best out of this,” he said.
Aizat AF5, 20, was informed of his participation by Nellomar Productions Sdn Bhd (NPSB), a local production house entrusted by the festival organisers to arrange the selection process of local representatives.

For his preparation, Aizat AF5 said besides vocal practice, he was also focusing mentally on the challenges. “It’s not going to be easy, but I feel 100 per cent ready.
There won’t be any drastic changes to my performances or songs, I’ll just be myself,” said Aizat AF5, whose trademark is strumming the guitar during shows.

This will be Malaysia’s second participation in the festival, which will be held from May 8 to 10. Some 40 performers from China, Egypt, Italy, Romania, Russia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine, among others, will also take part.

The winner of each category will receive €5,000 (RM23,800).

Last year, Mila, the winner of Akademi Fantasia season five, represented Malaysia there. She bagged the Best Song Award, Young Talent Award and Miss Tourism Bulgaria Award.

Aizat AF5 will be presenting Hanya Kau Yang Mampu in the Best Performance category and Lagu Kita in the Best Song category. “I hope the fact that these are my own compositions will give me an edge in the competition,” he said.

On Lagu Kita, Aizat AF5 said it was composed for a girl he had a crush on in school.

“It has special meaning for me. It’s honest and comes from the heart and I’m sure that it will reach listeners’ hearts.”

Meanwhile, NPSB chairman Fauziah Rauf said Aizat AF5 was nominated to compete in the festival based on his achievements.

“Aizat AF5 has shown potential and his achievements convinced us that he’s suitable to compete in the festival.”
